<<< HOW TO >>>

The purpose of this project is to provide students with hands on experience of the concepts observed below. This work is very advantageous because it provides the students with volunteer opportunities. In about 30 minutes, anyone can input data about bike rack usage into their personalized Mappler page for public viewing and contribute to this national effort. Here’s how…

For starters please download the application from the application page.

After approval of application, the volunteer(s) will be given a Mappler.com account to create his/her Mappler page that will showcase their research. This page will include a map of the area surveyed which also shows key points on the map.

To Design Your Website and Include Other Features…
Dr. Im will give you a username for your website. The website will usually have http://www.mappler.com/ a name. If you want to manage your website, go to http://www.mappler.com/a name/admin. Dr. Im will also provide you with a username and password. Click “Manage Mapsite”. This will take care of your links and designs on your Mappler Website.

- He or she will be instructed to not only collect data on the number of bike racks and stray bikes but also locate the coffee shops and delis in the general area.

- The volunteer ought to capture images for each category to post them on his/her homepage.

-When a computer is accessible, the volunteer should customize the design, banner, etc of their Mappler home page. GIS4KIDs.com will provide the volunteer with instructions on how to use the application.

-When familiar with the tools, volunteer will be able to plot the locations on the map for each category. Enter a specific location of a point into the search bar and hit “Add Points by Clicking on the Map”. Eventually he or she will add specific details

- Managing the website is a vital component of the project. In addition, the volunteer must probe deeply into the compiled data and form any relationships between the data and the current situation in the area.
